Over The Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project

Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project is both a timeless benefit effort and a uniquely compelling multimedia experience. The project—which incorporates a 2-CD, 26-song set; a lavishly illustrated hardcover book of 17 songs from the album; a corresponding e-book encompassing the entire collection; and a documentary film and web series —gathers many of contemporary musical theatres greatest composers and vocalists, as well as illustrators, all of whom have donated their talent to deliver an emotionally affecting set of new lullabies, some written specifically for this project. Proceeds from sales of the book and 2-CD set will benefit breast cancer research, support and education.

Here, for your viewing pleasure, is a behind-the-scenes look at the recording session for Lucky (Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, from the operaSeance on a Wet Afternoon).  Schwartz, who was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and the Broadway Hall of Fame in 2009, is the composer of the smash Broadway musicals WickedGodspell and Pippin.
The song is performed by Tony Award-winning actress & singer Donna Murphy, with Gil Goldstein (piano), and Jody Redhage (cello), produced by Matt Pierson. Illustration by three-time Caldecott Medal winner Marc Simont.

I really enjoyed reading this book to my daughter before bed. Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project is a fantastic addition to our nightly routine. We always read together at night and I found this book to be very helpful in calming her down and it was something I enjoyed too, its not just for the kids. We put in the 17 song cd that comes with the book and that combined with me reading Jasmine the book put her right to bed. The 17 song cd is Foreword by Julie Andrews & Emma Walton Hamilton.

The 26-song album isnt full of your traditional lullabies but rather full of warmly expressive songs. This cycle will touch listeners of all ages, while raising funds for respected breast cancer charities, The Breast Cancer Research Foundationand Young Survival Coalition. Jasmine likes falling asleep to this CD.

My daughters favorite part of the book is A Lullaby for Midnight, its beautifully illustrated and the words are perfect for helping urge her eyes to close even though it starts out by saying Dont go to sleep. Not yet, my child. Within minutes my little angels eyes are closed and off to dream land.
